Ramp Program
We believe that everyone deserves the independence that comes with safe, easy access to their home.
With independence comes dignity. Battle Creek area Habitat's Ramp Program builds affordable wooden ramps that restore independence for those with mobility challenges by providing safe access to and from their home. Since 2016, Battle Creek Area Habitat ramp crews have built over 400 ramps for our community members with accessibility needs.

Who qualifies for a Habitat ramp?
Low-income residents who reside in Calhoun County with temporary or permanent mobility challenges of any kind. The resident must be a homeowner with their property taxes up-to-date. Ramp builds are scheduled for approved applicants throughout the building season.

How much does a ramp cost?
Because each accessibility ramp is customized to the location, there is no standard cost. Financial assistance is available to qualified applicants based on their household income through various funding sources, which includes but are not limited to, grants, habitat donations, Disability Network and Veterans Affairs. If they are able, hoemowners may also make a donation. We believe that cost should never be a barrier to the independance that comes with a safe, accessible home.

How long does the process take?
Several factors affect the total process time. Funding source, paperwork, design, build permits and weather, but generally it takes 1-3 months from the initial request to the Ramp build day.
